2. Unit Summary (For our unit 2)

BEST-R---B: In this unit, students will be learning the fundamentals of Ballet. This Unit will comprise of 7 different lessons: History & terminology, barre, across the floor, center, petite allegro, analysis of dance, and student choreography. This unit will involve the element of dance: body, by allowing students to get acquainted with moving their body and using Ballet technique. 

3. Building the Foundation
a) Habits of Learning Taxonomy

  • Analysis of the genre
  • Synthesis & execution of the learned genre
  • Evaluation of student knowledge and choreography
  • Problem Solving: correcting each others technique
  • Thinking Flexibility: choreographing & using all elements of Ballet that have been learned

Goals: 

  • Students should be able to identify dance moves when demonstrated

  • Students should be able to perform dance moves based on verbal direction 

  • Students will be able to combine different parts of ballet technique in order to form a small sequence/combination

  • Students will understand where ballet originated, and important figures throughout its history

Week 5: Petite Allegro

Week 6: Analysis of Dance
Lesson 6.1: Demonstration (via video) of Ballet pieces
Lesson 6.2: Assessment of terminology: identifying different technique in Ballet pieces

Week 7: Student Choreography
Lesson 7.1: Rehearsal of learned techniques
Lesson 7.2: Student collaboration in groups
Lesson 7.3: Performance showcase & final assessment of learned technique
