Types of Curriculum
Written
The written curriculum is the knowledge you should gain from a course. It can typically be found in the syllabus or class description. This can be demonstrated by self reflection or written corrections in dance.
Taught
The taught curriculum is when teachers physically teach students and interact with them. I feel that it is the best way to teach all classes, but specifically dance. The best way to learn dance is to actually dance and interact with the teacher. I think some written curriculum can be applied as people age so the can keep track of their improvements.
Supported
The supported curriculum makes use of experiences and tools to teach. This could be useful in dance depending on their age and physical capabilities.
Assessed
The assessed curriculum is related to standardized testing. It tests the amount of information you know at that point in time, but it doesn't always test your knowledge of the actual subject or if you actually learned.
Question 2
The NEA and its committee of 10 did not include the arts in their original curriculum because they didn't think it was necessary to prepare people for life or college. They didn't even believe secondary school was meant to prepare anyone for college. They included the arts in their curriculum later on because they realized how important it was for people to socialize and move around, and the impact the arts could make in people's lives.
